EXPERTS TO EXPLORE CREATION OF A U.S. BICYCLE ROUTE SYSTEM
August 20, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — At this year’s Pro Walk/Pro Bike Conference in Seattle (September 2-5, 2008) two presentations will explore the potential for development of a U.S. Bicycle Route System, a system that could become the largest cycling network in the world. More.

BRONX LAB STUDENTS EMBARK ON UNDERGROUND RAILROAD BICYCLE ADVENTURE
July 9, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — This summer, eight Bronx Lab students will cycle a 240-mile stretch of the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route in Ohio. The Bronx Lab Underground Railroad Riders are part of the school’s unique, real-world-as-classroom initiative, “Health and History: Biking the Underground Railroad,” aimed at marrying healthy living habits with learning history. FORGET GAS PRICES: PLAN A SUMMER ADVENTURE BY BICYCLE
July 7, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Kerouac is history, the new cool is on two-wheels — the road trip by bicycle. This summer, whether they’re planning a solo journey, a weekend family outing, or gathering a group of friends together for a weeklong adventure, more people are rounding up their bicycles, some basic gear, and going gas-free. With the national average gas price at $4.10 (according to AAA) up from $2.96 last year — a 38 ½%  increase and all-time record — the time is ripe for discovering the ease and savings of biycle travel. ADVENTURE CYCLING VISITS ALBUQUERQUE TO SPEAK ON THE U.S. BICYCLE ROUTE SYSTEM INITIATIVE
July 2, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) is working in partnership with other national groups to develop a new, official U.S. Bicycle Route System. On July 17, 2008 ACA’s new routes coordinator, Ginny Sullivan and American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Task Force on US Bicycle Routes Chairman, Richard Moeur from the Arizona Department of Transportation, will be in Albuquerque to talk about this major initiative to create a national urban – suburban – rural bike route network. ADVENTURE CYCLING SEEKS AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR 2008 BICYCLE TRAVEL HEROES
June 25, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling is seeking nominations for three of their four annual bicycle travel awards that celebrate the heroes of bicycle travel in the U.S. Nominees are sought for the June Curry Trail Angel Award, the Pacesetter Bicycle Travel Award, and the Sam Braxton Bike Shop Award. The fourth, Adventure Cycling’s Volunteer of the Year Award, is selected directly by the organization. More.

NEW SIERRA CASCADES BICYCLE ROUTE GRANTED $20,000 IN SUPPORT FROM REI
June 20, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association just announced that Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) has granted the organization $20,000 to support the creation of what is destined to be one of the most iconic cycling routes in North America — a paved route tracing the Pacific Crest. More.

WORLD'S LONGEST MOUNTAIN BIKE RACES LAUNCH ON GREAT DIVIDE ROUTE

WORLD'S LONGEST MOUNTAIN BIKE ROUTE CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY
May 28, 2008, Missoula, Mont.— Adventure Cycling Association  and Dirt Rag magazine invite dirt lovers everywhere to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR). The longest mountain bike route on the planet, the GDMBR traces the spine of the Rocky Mountains for a whopping 2,711 miles in its entirety, following primarily dirt roads and tracks from Banff, Alberta, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, at the Mexican border. Sound hardcore? It is, but there are lots of ways to be involved with the anniversary, whether your friends call you super dirt or you’re still on training wheels. More.

May 21, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association invites cyclists to explore their three new East Coast routes. The Adirondack Park Loop and Allegheny Mountains Loop are both extended loop rides, while the Pittsburgh Spur connects Pittsburgh with the acclaimed 2,028-mile Underground Railroad Bicycle RouteMore.

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD CONTENDER IN GEOTOURISM CHALLENGE
May 15, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association today announced that its newest heritage route, the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route (UGRR), is a featured entrant in the National Geographic and Ashoka's Changemakers’ Geotourism Challenge. The Challenge is a global competition that seeks to uncover innovative tourism projects around the world that sustain, enhance, and preserve local culture and place. More.

GIS SPECIALIST JOINS ROUTES AND MAPPING DEPARTMENT
May 14, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association welcomes cartographer and GIS specialist, Kevin McManigal, to their routes and mapping department. NEW WASHINGTON PARKS BICYCLE ROUTE MAP RELEASED
May 7, 2008, Missoula, Mont. — Adventure Cycling Association today announced its new Washington Parks cycling route and map. This 870-mile, double loop route is laid out on two water-proof, tear-proof maps and offers many options for creating the ultimate bicycle trip in Washington State, including some of the best cycling terrain anywhere: the San Juan Islands, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and more. ONE OF OUTSIDE MAGAZINE'S BEST PLACES TO WORK
